Can’t Make More Money than Papa

Did you know that many people struggle with the idea of rising above their parent’s socioeconomic status? For some people, it’s out of respect for their parents. For others, they simply don’t know how. Those who raised you and taught you everything they could, did exactly that…which also means they most likely could only teach you how to get to where they are, and no further. They also, along with many others who greatly influenced your life like teachers, neighbors and friends, gave you their limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs are beliefs that you have that limit your potential, like “I’m not good enough,” which then keeps you from going for big goals and dreams. It will keep you thinking small and safe.

Limiting beliefs are spoken by the cynical voice in the back of your head that tells you that you can’t do things. We have lived with this voice so long, that we no longer recognize it as not our own. We believe it’s words as fact. It says things like:

“ I don’t have enough time to do that.”

“ I’m not that kind of person/we aren’t those kinds of people.”

“ I am too damaged for healthy relationships.”

“ Good things don’t happen to people like me.”

“ Too old to start over now.”

“ That’s just the way I am.”

“ I grew up poor and I always will be.”

We all have limiting beliefs. They are not your fault and they are not personal failures, more like stubborn little voices stuck in your head from way back. You might not even realize they’re there, but they can hold you back, filling your head with negative self talk and fear!

The good news is that limiting beliefs can be challenged and overcome. Just by recognizing them, you’ve taken the first step. By understanding where they came from, you can start to see them for what they are: not truths, but stories you’ve been told. This awareness and powers you to rewrite your story and break free from those limitations.

If you would like to dive into your limiting beliefs, book a session through my website. I would love to chat with you!
